The Big Apple Academy is an independent, coeducational academic institution for students enrolled in Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 8. The Big Apple Academy occupies two state-of-the-art facilities located in the Gravesend area of Brooklyn, N.Y. where the Elementary School (Kindergarten through 5th grade) and the Junior High School (Grades 6th through 8th ) are within walking distance of each other.
The Big Apple Academy is well known for its enduring tradition of providing academic excellence in a multicultural community with a very diverse population. The Academy’s ultimate goals begin with academics by enriching the lives of students and extend to services provided for continued development and enhancement of our community.
The Big Apple Academy strives to create an informal learning environment where students develop their character, mind, and body. The greatest asset of our institution is the close-knit relationships between faculty and students. It is our firm belief that from this relationship, students sharpen their most essential skill sets: thinking critically and analyzing, exploring and practicing through a broad array of human thoughts and accomplishments extending to the humanities, mathematics, the sciences, the arts, and athletics.
Our Academic Profile:
Our curriculum is informed by the standards of learning from the New York State Department of Education as well as those provided by various national pedagogical organizations. We engage our students in a challenging and increasingly interdisciplinary academic program enriched by the latest pedagogical initiatives, including Writing Across the Curriculum, Literacy, and Instructional Technology. Our students learn through discovery methods that emphasize their ability to think critically, research, analyze evidence, synthesize ideas, and formulate conclusions.
When Given the Big Apple:
The Academy believes that all students well prepared for the future must be inquisitive and self-reliant with the ability to acquire knowledge independently by exercising sound judgment. Through the intrinsic relationship between the school and the home, the Academy gives the students a sense of the future in the direction toward academic success.
The Big Apple Core:
The faculty is the greatest strength of the Academy. These are highly credentialed and professional educators who generate an endless supply of energy to produce outstanding academic results, year after year.

The Taste of the Big Apple.
Along with a long standing tradition of providing groundwork for excellence in academics, the Academy plans educational school trips to theaters, museums, the zoo and the circus.
The children also rehearse and perform in shows celebrating various holidays including the New Year and Mother’s Day. Certain weeks of the school year are organized to emphasize various subject areas where students prepare additional projects for “Math Week”, “English Week” and so on.
Our students have access to the latest educational technology by having their lessons scheduled in state-of-the-art computer classes. Scientific experiments are regularly conducted through the use of microscopes and other tools geared toward scientific discovery and research. All classes are equipped with TV’s and VCR’s as well as other materials produced by the school for didactic purposes.
When looking around the school building, it becomes clear to all that within our students we nurture self-expression and pride in works well done. The school walls are filled with artistic works, compositions, poetry, design patterns and 3D models.
